The union representing WestJet flight attendants has disclosed details of the tentative agreement reached with the Calgary-based airline this week following a one-day strike. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) announced that the deal entails an increase of over 18% in wages over a three-year period, along with a new “duty period premium” that provides additional compensation for ground duties. Other benefits of the deal include extended time off, enhanced food and uniform allowances, among other provisions.
During the long holiday weekend, all WestJet flights in major parts of Canada were suspended as 4,400 flight attendants were on the verge of striking. However, a tentative agreement was reached between the airline and the union early Monday, leading to a gradual return to normal operations for WestJet.
The cabin crew members are scheduled to vote on the proposed deal in the upcoming weeks.
