In a recent auction, a lightsaber featuring Luke Skywalker’s detached hand from the movie “The Empire Strikes Back” was sold for a record-breaking $3.75 million US. This sale marked the highest amount ever paid for a prop used in a “Star Wars” film, as confirmed by the auction house.
Now, enthusiasts have the opportunity to acquire the lightsaber responsible for the amputation. Among the key items up for bidding at the upcoming Ultimate Star Wars Auction by Heritage Auctions on November 12 is Darth Vader’s lightsaber, famously wielded during the intense duel in Cloud City where the iconic line “I am your father” was delivered to Skywalker.
Anticipated to command a price of at least $1 million US, the Vader lightsaber was also featured in “Return of the Jedi.” Over two dozen lightsaber props will be available for purchase at the auction, encompassing the “Star Wars” saga from Episodes I to IX, along with props from other productions within the George Lucas universe.
Additional notable items include the lightsabers used by Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi and Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker in “Revenge of the Sith,” each projected to fetch a minimum of $10,000 US. Furthermore, a Boba Fett EE-3 carbine blaster from “The Empire Strikes Back” is estimated to exceed $100,000 US in value.
The auction will also feature unique pieces such as a Yoda puppet hand utilized by Frank Oz in the character’s debut in “The Empire Strikes Back,” actor Anthony Daniels’ autographed personal third-draft screenplay for the original 1977 “Star Wars,” and a TIE Fighter pilot helmet from “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”
