Korean pop group BTS is receiving criticism from certain fans following their appearance alongside controversial American artist Chris Brown at his Toronto concert on Wednesday. J-Hope (Jung Ho-seok) and RM (Kim Nam-joon) were spotted at the Rogers Stadium show, where Brown performed with Usher.
BTS is set to take the same stage for their own performances on August 22 and 23. In a picture shared on Brown’s Instagram, J-Hope and RM were seen posing with the singer and were also captured enjoying the concert in various social media videos.
Brown has a checkered past with legal issues dating back to 2009 when he was convicted of assaulting his then-girlfriend, singer Rihanna. Subsequent assault charges led to his incarceration in 2014. Recently, he admitted guilt in a London nightclub assault case involving a producer.
The online reaction within BTS’s fan base, known as ARMY, has been mixed. While some expressed disappointment in the members for associating with Brown, others defended J-Hope and RM, suggesting they might have attended the event to see Usher rather than to support Brown.
The debate online reflects differing viewpoints, with some fans emphasizing the seriousness of Brown’s history while others urge against making assumptions about the members’ intentions or values based on one evening. BTS’s representatives have not yet responded to requests for comments on the matter.
