Medvedev Ends Auger-Aliassime’s Streak

Felix Auger-Aliassime’s impressive performance at the Dubai Tennis Championships came to an end on Friday with a defeat in the semifinals against Daniil Medvedev, the third seed from Russia, at the ATP 500 tournament. Auger-Aliassime, hailing from Montreal and the top seed, had been unbeaten in sets in his first three matches of the week and had an impressive 11-1 record for February coming into the semifinal clash.

Medvedev showcased a dominant display by winning 88% of his first-serve points and breaking Auger-Aliassime’s serve three times, ultimately controlling the match. Despite Auger-Aliassime’s efforts to reach his third consecutive tour-level final following victories in Montpellier and a runner-up finish in Rotterdam, Medvedev’s strong performance proved too much to handle.

Auger-Aliassime had previously triumphed in his last two encounters with Medvedev, marking a significant turnaround from his initial 0-7 record against the Russian. In the upcoming final on Sunday, Medvedev will take on the winner between Andrey Rublev and Tallon Griekspoor for the championship title.
