The World Nomad Games, a celebration of traditional nomadic sports and culture, are currently taking place in Kyrgyzstan. Athletes hailing from 104 different countries are participating in these games, which highlight the sporting traditions of the Turkic peoples in Central Asia. The events, held in Kyrchyn Gorge, located approximately 314 kilometers east of the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek, will conclude on Sunday.
Participants at the games have been engaging in various competitions showcasing unique skills and traditions. From individuals marching with golden eagles to riders from Kazakhstan competing in the equestrian discipline of “tyiyn enmei” where they must pick up coins while riding at speed, the games offer a diverse display of cultural heritage.
Additionally, horse riders from Uzbekistan and Russia have been competing in the traditional Central Asian sports of “kok-boru” (gray wolf) or “buzkashi” (goat grabbing). In these games, mounted players vie for points by tossing the carcass of a headless goat into a well.
The festivities extend beyond competitive events, with spectators enjoying local cuisine and admiring various craftsmanship skills on display. From women demonstrating wool spooling to individuals showcasing pottery-making techniques, the World Nomad Games offer a rich tapestry of cultural experiences for all attendees.
