“Kelowna Police Investigate Targeted Fatal Attack”

Kelowna RCMP are currently probing the demise of an 18-year-old individual outside an apartment complex on Saturday night. The authorities were alerted to “an altercation involving two groups of individuals” on Jan. 24 around 8:20 p.m., near the intersection of Cooper and Benvoulin roads.

Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered the young man with severe injuries. He was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries later on. Cpl. Steven Lang, the media relations officer with the Kelowna RCMP, stated that they believe this incident was targeted. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police.

During the investigation, road closures were implemented around the West Wynd Point apartment complex from Saturday night until Sunday afternoon. A resident of West Wynd Point, Graham Houston, mentioned hearing commotion resembling a dispute or altercation as he prepared for bed. He promptly dialed 911, leading to a swift response from police and emergency services.

Although the area is now relatively safer, Houston noted occasional vandalism like broken car windows due to nighttime activities. Cpl. Lang revealed that the Kelowna RCMP Serious Crime Unit has taken charge of the investigation. He refrained from disclosing any information regarding suspects or arrests related to the incident and clarified that there is no indication of gang involvement.

Lang emphasized that Kelowna continues to grapple with social issues and efforts are underway to address concerns related to public safety and property crimes in the vicinity. Witnesses of the assault are encouraged to contact the Kelowna RCMP Serious Crime Unit at 250-762-3300. Anonymous tips can be reported to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or via www.crimestoppers.net.
