The Terrebonne riding will witness a rematch between Bloc Québécois candidate Nathalie Sinclair-Desgagné and Liberal contender Tatiana Auguste, as the Supreme Court recently overturned last year’s election outcome. Bloc Leader Yves-François Blanchet introduced Sinclair-Desgagné as their candidate, lauding her unwavering determination. Meanwhile, the Liberals have officially re-nominated Auguste for the Montreal-area constituency.
Following the federal election on April 28, Elections Canada initially declared Auguste as the victor over Sinclair-Desgagné by a mere single vote. However, Sinclair-Desgagné contested the results after a supporter raised concerns about a disregarded special mail-in ballot. Her appeal prevailed in the Supreme Court on February 13.
With the Liberal Party currently three seats shy of a majority government, Terrebonne is among the three constituencies set for upcoming by-elections. Prime Minister Mark Carney is yet to announce the dates for the by-elections in Terrebonne and the two vacant ridings in Toronto.
