Protesters Gather in Geneva to Oppose G7 Summit

Thousands of protesters gathered on Sunday to express their dissatisfaction with the G7 nations, ahead of a summit in France involving U.S. President Donald Trump and other leaders. Environmentalists, feminists, anti-imperialism activists, independent media advocates, supporters of Palestinian rights, and various other groups marched through a lakeside park in Geneva. Swiss and French authorities have deployed a large police presence to ensure security for the upcoming three-day summit in Évian-les-Bains, where discussions on topics including the Middle East, Ukraine, and global economic issues are expected. Measures such as road closures, prohibition of unauthorized gatherings, and financial assistance for potentially affected businesses have been implemented. Demonstrators have been assembling in Geneva for days leading up to the protests against the G7. A flotilla of boats displaying anti-G7 and pro-Palestinian messages appeared on Lake Geneva, with some protesters detained earlier. French authorities are ramping up security with over 13,000 police and gendarmerie officers, along with increased border control measures. Protesters are voicing concerns over various issues, including Trump’s policies on tariffs, the Iran conflict, climate change, and his past connections to Jeffrey Epstein. Françoise Nyffeler, spokesperson for the NoG7 coalition, expressed fear over the leaders’ actions and highlighted the global opposition to their policies.
