The number of individuals held in ICE facilities in the United States has surged by 75% in the past year, totaling around 73,000 people. Since Donald Trump assumed office, at least 38 individuals have died while in ICE custody. This increase is part of the Trump administration’s extensive crackdown on immigration, which involved establishing more than 100 new facilities. One such facility, located in southern Florida, has been nicknamed Alligator Alcatraz. Amnesty International USA conducted an investigation in December, revealing conditions that were described as “cruel, inhuman, and degrading.”
