Canada placed fifth in the figure skating team event at the Milano Skating Arena, missing the podium with a total of 54 points. The United States defended its title, winning gold with 69 points, just one point ahead of Japan who took silver. Italy secured the bronze with 60 points, marking its first team event medal since 2018.
In the pairs skating free program, Lia Pereira and Trennt Michaud of Canada earned a season-best score of 134.42 points, ranking them fifth in the segment. Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara of Japan, the reigning world champions, delivered an outstanding performance with a season-best score of 155.55 points, claiming the top spot.
In the women’s singles event, Madeline Schizas of Canada scored 125 points after a fall on a triple lutz, finishing fifth overall. Despite the setback, Schizas showcased resilience and completed a clean program. Japan’s Kaori Sakamoto led the women’s free program with 148.62 points, tying the U.S. in points before the men’s free program.
Stephen Gogolev, a Canadian Olympic rookie, placed fourth in the men’s free program with a season-best score of 171.93 points. The gold medal battle in the men’s singles event was between Ilia Malinin from the U.S. and Sato Shun from Japan, with Malinin ultimately winning gold with 200.03 points. Sato earned a season’s best score of 194.86 points but fell short of overtaking Malinin.
