Canada’s Megan Oldham clinched a bronze medal in the women’s freeski slopestyle event at the Milano-Cortina Olympic Games. The 24-year-old freestyle skier from Parry Sound, Ontario, achieved her first Olympic medal and expressed her satisfaction with the outcome. Oldham, who narrowly missed the podium in Beijing, was determined to excel this time and put in her best effort to secure a place on the podium.
Starting the final run in third place, Oldham secured her spot on the podium with an impressive score of 76.46. Despite a crash on the final jump during her second run, Oldham persevered and delivered a stellar performance in the third round, fending off Kirsty Muir from Great Britain. The reigning Olympic champion, Mathilde Gremaud from Switzerland, retained her title with a score of 86.96.
Eileen Gu of China led after the initial round but settled for silver, while Naomi Urness of Mont-Tremblant, Quebec, finished in seventh place in her first Olympic appearance. Oldham became the second Canadian to claim a medal at Milano Cortina, following speed skater Valérie Maltais’ bronze win in the women’s 3,000 meters.
In a post-event interview, Oldham expressed her pride and joy after securing the bronze medal, highlighting her determination and resilience throughout the competition.
