The Saskatchewan Roughriders have secured the return of running back AJ Ouellette for another season in Regina. Ouellette, a seasoned CFL player with seven years of experience, has inked a one-year contract extension with the team just before hitting free agency.
In the previous season, Ouellette played a pivotal role for the Roughriders, leading the team in touchdowns with nine and accumulating 1,222 rushing yards, the second-highest in the league. He was also instrumental in the Grey Cup Championship game, recording 17 carries for 83 yards and a touchdown.
Initially signed as a free agent in February 2024, Ouellette joined the Roughriders after stints with the Toronto Argonauts and a brief NFL tenure. Despite being hampered by a hip injury in his first season with the team, limiting his appearances to eight games, Ouellette has showcased his talent consistently throughout his career.
Throughout his 62 regular-season games, Ouellette has amassed impressive stats, rushing for 3,562 yards on 700 carries, averaging 5.1 yards per carry, and scoring 21 touchdowns. Additionally, he has contributed five receiving touchdowns, making 110 catches for 949 yards.
The extension of Ouellette’s contract is a significant move for the Roughriders as they aim to build on their success in the upcoming season.
