A man from Prince Edward Island, responsible for a lockdown at Morell Consolidated School last month, has been sentenced to one year in jail for the incident, which involved him being in possession of a stolen vehicle. Andrew Blaisdell, aged 46, has a history of criminal activities and was previously involved in a provincewide Amber Alert in 2023 for taking off with his daughter.
Blaisdell, who is prohibited from contacting his ex-partner and their children, was found intoxicated at Morrell Consolidated School on December 17, looking for his children who do not attend the school. Despite being recognized by the principal, he was persuaded to leave initially but later returned, leading to the activation of a safety protocol by the school’s authorities.
Upon police intervention, Blaisdell was arrested, and it was discovered that the 2025 Kia SUV he was driving had been reported stolen earlier that day in Charlottetown. Following a blood test at the hospital, he may face additional charges for impaired driving pending lab results.
During his sentencing, the Crown prosecutor highlighted Blaisdell’s extensive criminal record, emphasizing the need to denounce and deter his behavior for public safety. Blaisdell, appearing via video from the Provincial Correctional Centre, pleaded guilty to all charges, expressing remorse and a commitment to improving his actions.
The judge sentenced Blaisdell to a total of one year in jail for various charges, including mischief at the school and possession of the stolen car. The court acknowledged the disruptive impact on the school’s students and staff, leading to a lockdown due to his actions. Upon release, Blaisdell will be on probation for two years, with strict conditions prohibiting contact with his children and ex-partner.
