Olympic medalist Alysha Newman suspended for Whereabouts Failures

Canadian pole vaulter Alysha Newman, who won a bronze medal at the Olympics, has been provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit due to Whereabouts Failures. Athletics Canada, the country’s track and field governing body, announced the suspension on Wednesday. The organization expressed its disappointment over the situation and hopes to welcome Newman back to the National Team Program once she is eligible. This development follows a similar incident last year involving decorated Olympic swimmer Penny Oleksiak, who was also banned for three whereabouts failures. Newman made history as the first Canadian woman to earn an Olympic medal in pole vaulting.
