“Alberta RCMP Officer and Spouse Face Fraud Charges”

A police officer from southern Alberta and his spouse are facing fraud charges, as stated by the RCMP on Friday. Constable Grant Shade, who has been a member of the RCMP since 2021, is accused of fraud and theft exceeding $5,000, along with his wife, Katrina Shade. The Alberta RCMP Serious Crimes Branch initiated an investigation based on reports of fraudulent activities involving Piikani Resource Development Ltd., an economic development corporation owned by the Piikani Nation. Katrina was previously employed by Piikani Resource, according to law enforcement officials.

In addition to the fraud and theft allegations against the couple, Constable Shade faces an extra charge of possessing property acquired through crime exceeding $5,000. He serves at the Piikani Nation RCMP detachment, situated 200 kilometers south of Calgary, and has been placed on paid suspension.

Details regarding the specific nature of the alleged offenses remain undisclosed, with the RCMP citing ongoing legal procedures as the reason for withholding further information. Grant and Katrina Shade reside in Pincher Creek, located to the west of Piikani Nation, and are scheduled to appear in court on February 18 in Fort Macleod.
