Schellenberg was apprehended in 2014 for drug-related offenses and was sentenced to 15 years in prison in late 2018. Despite his appeal, a court in Dalian imposed a death sentence in January 2019, shortly after Meng’s arrest in Vancouver on charges of deceiving HSBC about Huawei’s business in Iran.
