King Charles Reaffirms Harry and Meghan’s Non-Working Royal Status

King Charles issued a letter to senior British officials on Monday, confirming that his youngest son, Prince Harry, and Meghan, are considered non-working members of the royal family upon their return to the U.K. The letter, shared with Harry’s team and distributed to senior officials in the government and military, stated that after stepping down from their official royal duties in 2020, Harry and Meghan are no longer active members of the royal family.

The letter emphasized that their status as non-working royals provides them with personal freedom in terms of financial independence and privacy protection. It highlighted that their position is separate from the state and royal duties performed by the working royal family and that it would be fully respected.

Furthermore, the letter clarified that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex remain in their current status, and their charitable endeavors are considered personal matters undertaken in their private capacity. Essentially, their position is described as similar to that of private citizens with both commercial and charitable interests.

Prince Harry and his family returned to Britain at the end of last month after residing in the United States for six years. Their departure to the U.S. in 2020 marked their decision to step back from official royal duties to pursue independent careers. Despite their move, they continued to be in the spotlight as Harry publicly expressed grievances against the royal family for neglect, criticized the tabloid press for negative portrayal, and accused the government of inadequate security provision hindering his return to the U.K.
