Samantha Mauti, a meteorologist with ECCC, informed CBC News on Sunday morning that the ongoing storms are anticipated to deposit between 10 to 20 centimeters of snow by the end of the day. She mentioned that the last notable snowfall in Windsor occurred on January 25, 2023, measuring 11.2 centimeters.
Mauti expressed the possibility that the snowfall on Sunday could surpass that previous record. Additionally, she warned of potential quick moving flurries on Monday morning, potentially adding another 2 centimeters to the region.
Residents of Windsor shared their experiences with CBC on Sunday evening. Mani Singh, 32, mentioned spending time shoveling snow in the morning to run errands and later to reach the gym. University student Pritham Suresan highlighted the challenges of navigating the snowy sidewalks and advised pedestrians to bundle up for safety.
Tahmina Sharif Mitu, who relocated to Windsor in 2021, described the recent snowfall as unprecedented for the region. She emphasized the importance of being prepared with essential supplies and utilizing the storm as an opportunity to bond with family indoors.
The weather alert predicts heavy snowfall at times, potential local blowing snow, and accumulation of 10 to 15 centimeters, with temperatures feeling as low as -20°C due to wind chill. The agency forecasts continuous snowfall throughout the night, with temperatures expected to remain below seasonal averages.
Ontario Provincial Police advised against non-essential travel on Sunday following multiple collisions on Highway 401 near Chatham. OPP urged motorists to plan alternative routes, drive cautiously, and adhere to road and weather conditions. Windsor Police Service also cautioned drivers to be vigilant and assist vulnerable community members during the adverse weather conditions.
