On the other side, Cale Makar scored for Canada, but it wasn’t enough as Jordan Binnington’s 26 saves couldn’t prevent the defeat. Notably, Canada’s NHL stars had clinched Olympic gold in 2002, 2010, and 2014, but fell short this time around.
The decisive goal was scored by Hughes in extra time, assisted by Zach Werenski, after a close attempt by Quinn Hughes was denied by Binnington.
