After a five-year absence, New Brunswick is proudly represented in the Canadian Senate’s page program by two individuals from Fredericton. Amanda Morris and Tait Leroux, both studying in Ottawa, are among 17 pages nationwide assisting with Senate operations. Their tasks include delivering messages, printing speeches, and setting up committees.
Morris expressed gratitude for the opportunity to represent her province, emphasizing the support she received from her community. Leroux highlighted Fredericton’s capabilities, noting that having two representatives showcases the city’s potential.
The two friends often reminisce about New Brunswick, sharing stories about hometown experiences like enjoying moon mist ice cream. Leroux mentioned the comfort of having someone familiar to talk to about home, reflecting on their longstanding friendship.
Senate pages must be full-time university students attending classes in Ottawa during their page tenure. The application process, including group interviews and bilingual skills testing, is open to all full-time students. Morris and Leroux, balancing their page duties with studies, emphasized the importance of maintaining a work-life balance and effective time management.
