“Gilles and Poirier Win Olympic Bronze in Ice Dance”

Canada’s ice dance pair, Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier, secured the bronze medal at the Milano Cortina Games. This milestone victory marked their first Olympic medal after a decade of skating together. Meanwhile, Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron of France claimed the gold, with Madison Chock and Evan Bates of the United States taking home the silver.

Gilles and Poirier delivered a stellar performance, earning a season-best score of 131.56 in the free dance and a total score of 217.74, also setting a season’s best record. They became the first Canadians to reach the individual ice dance podium since Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir’s gold-winning performance at Pyeongchang 2018.

Reflecting on their journey, Gilles and Poirier highlighted the challenges they overcame, including Gilles’ battle with cancer. The duo expressed their pride and joy in achieving this significant milestone.

In another exciting event, Cizeron defended his gold medal alongside Fournier Beaudry, securing a total score of 225.82 with an outstanding performance. The pair, who surprised many with their addition to this season’s Olympics lineup, showcased remarkable talent on the ice.

The married couple, Chock and Bates, from the United States, also impressed with their silver medal win and a season-best score of 224.39. Additionally, hometown favorites Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri of Milan finished in fourth place.

Among the Canadian pairs, Marjorie Lajoie and Zachary Lagha displayed a beautiful performance, scoring 120.14 in the free dance. Despite some disappointment with the score, the duo emphasized their dedication to pleasing the audience with their skating.

Moreover, Marie-Jade Lauriault and Romain Le Gac showcased a unique routine, scoring 112.83 points in the free dance. The couple expressed their joy in sharing this special Olympic moment together.
