“Expanded Pizza Pops Recall Over E. coli Concerns”

A recall for specific Pizza Pops products that was initially announced prior to the holiday season has now been broadened. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has disclosed the expansion of the recall to encompass various Pizza Pops types, such as three-cheese, pepperoni, pepperoni and bacon, deluxe, and three-meat, packaged in different forms, due to potential E. coli O26 contamination. The agency has made available a detailed list of the impacted products on its official website.

Previously, on December 21, there was a recall of select Pizza Pops products due to potential E. coli contamination. The Public Health Agency of Canada reported last month that multiple individuals across seven provinces were hospitalized as a result of the outbreak.

The CFIA has warned that food tainted with E. coli O26 may not exhibit any visible signs of spoilage but can still cause illness. It is advised to discard the recalled products or return them to the point of purchase. General Mills, the manufacturer of Pizza Pops, has emphasized that food safety remains their utmost priority. They are collaborating with retail partners to eliminate potentially affected items.

The company’s statement urges consumers to inspect their freezers and dispose of any products impacted by the recall. Symptoms of E. coli infection may include nausea, vomiting, headache, mild fever, severe stomach cramps, and watery or bloody diarrhea. While most individuals recover within a few days without medical intervention, pregnant women, children under five, individuals over 60, and those with compromised immune systems are at a higher risk of severe complications.
