A tragic incident occurred on Monday in the Panorama Ridge neighborhood of Surrey, British Columbia, where a fatal house fire took place. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) of The Lower Mainland is currently looking into the matter.
The Surrey Police Service was summoned to assist firefighters in managing road closures as they battled the blaze on 56 Avenue near 127 Street early Monday morning. During the operation, Surrey Fire Service personnel discovered the body of a deceased man in the house.
Sergeant Lindsey Houghton stated that the circumstances surrounding the man’s death are now considered suspicious, leading IHIT to take over the investigation. Specific details regarding the deceased individual and his connection to the property have not been disclosed yet.
Houghton mentioned, “We are in the process of collecting additional information. The coroner, in collaboration with the police, has classified the death as suspicious, although we cannot provide further specifics at this time.”
Authorities have clarified that the fire and the man’s demise are unrelated to any extortion incidents in the Lower Mainland. They are appealing to the public for any information or potential CCTV and dashcam footage from the vicinity between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. on January 12 to come forward and aid in the investigation.
