Some educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and public service offices in the province experienced delays or closures on Monday due to adverse weather conditions. Environment Canada had issued a yellow warning specifically for Kings County, citing a significant risk of damaging winds. The warnings have since been lifted for the entire province.
Westisle Family of Schools had to cancel classes for the day, while other classes under the Public Schools Branch were conducted with a one-hour delay. Similarly, classes at École Pierre Chiasson were canceled for the day, but other CSLF schools operated after a one-hour delay.
In-person appointments at Tyne Valley Health Centre, O’Leary Health Centre, Alberton Health Centre, and Tignish Health Centre were canceled until 9:30 a.m. Provincial civil service offices in the West Prince area also delayed their opening until 10:30 a.m.
Although the warning was localized to Kings County, CBC meteorologist Tina Simpkin mentioned that residents across the province could still face strong winds. The gusts were expected to be most severe facing the Gulf of St. Lawrence, but wind speeds of 50 to 80 km/h were possible across the entire Island throughout the day.
The high winds were forecasted to persist throughout the day, gradually decreasing by evening and overnight.
