“Tragic Carbon Monoxide Incident Update: Investigation Details Revealed”

Regina’s fire chief has provided an update regarding the investigation into a tragic carbon monoxide incident that occurred in Regina, Saskatchewan on December 19, 2025. An 11-year-old boy named Henry Losco lost his life, and his father was hospitalized in critical condition following exposure to the toxic gas in their residence at 1827 Albert Street.

According to Regina Fire Chief Layne Jackson, the leak was determined to be accidental, resulting from a critical malfunction in a boiler system. While the investigation is ongoing with the involvement of multiple agencies, the examination of the incident site has been completed. However, authorities have not yet confirmed the last inspection date of the faulty boiler.

Henry Losco’s mother, Marina Hills, expressed her devastation to CBC after discovering her son unconscious in his room. She attempted to revive him until emergency responders intervened. Recalling the heartbreaking moment when she was informed of her son’s passing and her husband’s hospitalization, Marina shared her deep emotional connection with her son, describing him as her best friend.

In the initial stages of the investigation, Chief Jackson disclosed that maintenance work was underway on service equipment within the building at the time of the carbon monoxide release. The specific piece of service equipment was identified as the origin of the toxic gas. Various authorities, including the fire department, police, the Technical Safety Authority of Saskatchewan, and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service, are involved in the ongoing inquiry into the incident.

Carbon monoxide, a silent and odorless gas, can be fatal if undetected, underscoring the importance of proper gas safety measures in residential settings.
