Canada’s Victoria Mboko suffered a 6-4, 7-5 defeat against Czechia’s Karolina Muchova in the women’s final of the Qatar Open on Saturday. The 19-year-old player from Toronto managed to secure four aces and had one double fault, seizing her only break-point opportunity during the match. With this result, Mboko’s singles season record stands at 13-4, propelling her to a career-best No. 10 ranking in the global standings.
This final marked Mboko’s second appearance this season, following her loss to Russian player Mirra Andreeva in the Adelaide International final back in January. Additionally, it was her second 1000-level final in her career, with her first victory occurring at last year’s National Bank Open in Montreal.
In terms of performance statistics, Muchova recorded two aces and two double faults, successfully breaking on two out of six chances. Notably, Muchova outperformed Mboko in first-serve points won, boasting a percentage of 77.8 compared to Mboko’s 60.5 percent.
