Massive protests against ICE in Minneapolis escalated over the weekend following the second fatal shooting of an American citizen by federal law enforcement officers in the city this month. On Saturday, border patrol agents fatally shot Alex Jeffrey Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse.
Today’s discussion revolves around Stephen Miller, the deputy chief of staff for policy under Donald Trump, and how the recent deadly ICE incident in Minnesota is another illustration of the domestic policies he has promoted. Miller has emerged as the primary architect and enforcer of Trump’s key policies during his second administration, including stringent immigration measures, mass deportations, targeting perceived adversaries, and an increasingly assertive foreign policy.
Joining us to delve into these topics is Michael Scherer, a staff writer at The Atlantic specializing in American politics and the individuals shaping it. He co-authored a recent profile titled “The Wrath of Stephen Miller.”
It’s worth noting that our conversation with Michael took place before the recent shooting and its aftermath in Minneapolis.
