“Curler Brett Gallant Transitions to Men’s Team Play at Winter Games”

Canadian curler Brett Gallant has transitioned from mixed doubles to four-player men’s team play after enjoying a day off at the Winter Games. Gallant, who competed in both disciplines simultaneously, missed the playoffs with partner Jocelyn Peterman. He rejoined the Brad Jacobs-skipped Calgary-based rink for training at Cortina Curling Olympic Stadium, expressing gratitude for the fresh start.

The Canadian men prepared for a match against Germany’s Marc Muskatewitz, while the Ottawa-based women’s team led by Rachel Homan geared up for their opening game against Denmark’s Madeleine Dupont. Heather Nedohin, the coach of the women’s team, expressed excitement as they practiced and prepared for the upcoming game.

Following their elimination from playoff contention, Gallant and Peterman closed out their round-robin schedule with a victory over Switzerland. Gallant, reuniting with his men’s teammates, including Jacobs, Marc Kennedy, Ben Hebert, and alternate Tyler Tardi, found motivation from their enthusiasm and positive energy.

Both Canadian teams were anticipated to be strong contenders for medals, with Sweden’s Niklas Edin and Great Britain’s Bruce Mouat among the top competitors in the men’s field. In the women’s draw, Homan’s team, ranked number one globally, aimed for a podium finish at the Games.

With a competitive field in both the men’s and women’s events, the Canadian teams were determined to make their mark at the Winter Games. The team competition was set to continue until the final day of the Games on Feb. 22.
