“Canada Dominates Short Track Speed Skating World Stage”

Canada has been a dominant force in short track speed skating, consistently performing well since the sport’s debut in the Winter Olympics in 1992. The country’s success continued in the 2022 games in Beijing, where Canadian athletes secured four medals, with Charles Hamelin leading the way by winning six career medals, tying the Canadian record.

Despite Hamelin’s retirement, Canada has risen to become the top short track speed skating country globally. The nation’s ascent began during the 2024-25 World Tour, where Canadian athletes amassed an impressive 37 medals, including 21 golds. This success carried over to the world championships in Beijing, where Canadians claimed six out of nine events, showcasing their dominance.

In the current season, Canada further solidified its supremacy by winning all three World Tour Crystal Globes. Athletes like Will Dandjinou and Courtney Sarault have been instrumental in Canada’s success, with Dandjinou being a gold medal favorite in multiple events. Sarault, on the other hand, is looking to secure her first podium finish at the Winter Olympics.

Steven Dubois is another Canadian standout to watch, having excelled in previous championships and at the 2022 Olympics. As the short track competition kicks off in Milan, Canadian athletes are poised to compete for medals, with high expectations for Dandjinou, Sarault, Dubois, and the Canadian mixed relay team.

In addition to short track speed skating, other notable events to watch on Tuesday include freestyle skiing with Mikaël Kingsbury in moguls qualifying, mixed doubles curling, figure skating, and women’s hockey where Canada faces the United States in a crucial group-stage match.
