Actress Selma Blair Arrested for Assault on Flight

Selma Blair, a well-known actress, faced arrest following accusations of causing harm to two flight attendants during a flight from Los Angeles to New York. Additionally, she was charged with assaulting a police officer and a nurse after being taken to the hospital. The incident took place late on Sunday when the Delta Air Lines plane landed at New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport.

Blair, aged 54, was apprehended around 11 p.m. ET at the airport gate. Both Blair and one of the flight attendants were subsequently transported to a hospital for assessment. According to charging documents, a police officer detailed that Blair kicked her numerous times in the face, neck, and chest while being secured to a stretcher. Later, a nurse reported being kicked in the chest by Blair, resulting in significant pain.

She appeared in court in Queens, where she was charged with two counts of second-degree assault. During the court appearance, her attorney, Shawn Barnes, claimed that Blair’s actions were unintentional. Barnes mentioned that Blair, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, had missed some doses of a crucial medication, leading to severe neurological symptoms.

The judge set Blair’s bail at $20,000 cash or a $60,000 bond, scheduling the next hearing for January. Despite the incident, details concerning the events onboard the flight were not immediately disclosed by the airline or authorities. Delta emphasized its commitment to prioritizing the safety of passengers and crew by maintaining zero tolerance for disruptive or unlawful behavior.

In a previous incident, Blair, known for her roles in various films, including “Cruel Intentions” and “Legally Blonde,” had faced issues aboard a plane in 2016. She had publicly apologized for her behavior, attributing it to a mix of alcohol and medication that caused her to black out. More recently, Blair has been an advocate for disability rights, particularly after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2018.
