“Pressure Mounts as FIFA President Infantino Seeks Re-Election”

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has confirmed his intention to seek re-election, as announced by the world soccer governing body on Sunday. Infantino has been under scrutiny for his failed proposal to sell stakes in the World Cup, facing calls for his resignation. Despite the mounting pressure, FIFA stated that Infantino will pursue a fourth term in office, aiming to extend his presidency until 2031.

In response to the criticisms, UEFA, the European soccer authority, has been vocal in demanding Infantino’s departure, expressing a lack of trust and even considering boycotting FIFA events, including the World Cup. Several national associations, such as the English FA, have also withdrawn their support for Infantino’s re-election bid.

Infantino, who refrained from discussing his future plans at the opening of the Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland, emphasized that the appropriate time and place for such discussions will come. FIFA has acknowledged mistakes in its controversial attempt to commercialize World Cup profits and vowed to prevent similar errors in the future. However, these actions have not alleviated the pressure on Infantino’s leadership.

The deadline for presidential candidates to enter the upcoming election is November 18, four months before the scheduled vote.
