Russian drones targeted and caused damage to a Coca-Cola facility near Kyiv, Ukraine, as reported by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The incident occurred close to Brovary, east of the capital, with no reported injuries. Zelenskyy highlighted in his evening address that the attack on the Coca-Cola plant with Iranian-designed drones was a deliberate message from Russia to the United States due to the plant’s American ownership.
Footage from Reuters TV displayed firefighting teams responding to the scene, with smoke billowing from the plant and spreading across the surrounding fields. Andy Hunder, head of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine, confirmed that the plant’s employees were unharmed, emphasizing that safety and well-being are the primary concerns as authorities evaluate the situation.
A spokesperson for Coca-Cola Company conveyed via email that the affected plant in Ukraine is under the ownership of Coca-Cola HBC, an independent bottler. Coca-Cola HBC reassured on Friday that all employees are safe and cooperating with authorities to assess the aftermath of the attack.
The conflict between Russia and Ukraine escalated into a full-scale invasion in February 2022, leading to ongoing hostilities between the two nations.
