The 36-year-old defenseman was sidelined by the NHL club on February 25, citing “roster management” amid growing trade speculations. These rumors materialized when the Canucks traded Myers to the Dallas Stars. The deal involved Vancouver receiving a second-round pick in the 2027 draft and a fourth-round pick in 2029, with the Canucks retaining half of Myers’s $3 million US cap hit until the following season. The NHL trade deadline is set for Friday at 3 p.m. ET.
Winger Brock Boeser expressed admiration for Myers, highlighting his leadership qualities and professionalism within the team. Myers, despite the ongoing trade talks, remained dedicated to his work, participating in practices and maintaining a supportive role in the dressing room.
Myers, a towering six-foot-eight defenseman hailing from Houston, had been with the Canucks for seven seasons, signing as a free agent in July 2019. His tenure with the team saw him contribute one goal and seven assists across 57 games in the 205-26 season.
Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin revealed that several teams had shown interest in Myers, leading to discussions about waiving his no-move clause. Ultimately, Myers expressed interest in joining the Dallas Stars, a move that quickly materialized into the trade agreement.
Originally drafted 12th overall by the Buffalo Sabres in 2008, Myers has had a distinguished career spanning 17 NHL seasons, playing for Vancouver, Buffalo, and the Winnipeg Jets. With over 1,123 regular-season games under his belt, Myers has amassed 100 goals and 303 assists, solidifying his impact on the ice and in the locker room.
Meanwhile, Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Chris Tanev will sit out the rest of the season following successful core muscle surgery in New York City. Tanev, who has been plagued by injuries, participated in only 11 games this season, with his last appearance dating back to December 28.
Additionally, the San Jose Sharks secured forward Kiefer Sherwood with a five-year, $28.75 million extension.
