The snow is anticipated to commence early Monday morning and persist until Tuesday afternoon. Islanders could potentially see snow accumulation ranging between 15 to 25 cm, with chances of localized higher amounts, as per Environment Canada.
Northernly wind gusts may reach speeds of 50 to 70 km/h during the storm. Islanders are advised to plan ahead for potential school closures, according to the statement.
CBC meteorologist Jay Scotland forecasts northeast wind gusts affecting visibility. He notes that due to cold air, the snow may be light and fluffy, increasing the chance of blowing and drifting snow caused by brisk northeasterly winds ranging from 25-50+ km/h on Monday afternoon and evening.
Residents should stay updated on the forecast, as more warnings may be issued by Environment Canada later today. A yellow temperature warning remains in effect across the island, with frigid temperatures potentially feeling as cold as -34°C with wind chill.
