After rising to fame in a fairytale-like fashion, Hudson Williams has delved into writing his own narratives. The 24-year-old actor from Vancouver initially gained recognition in November last year for his role as hockey sensation Shane Hollander on the hit series “Heated Rivalry.” The Crave Original production has become the most successful show on the streaming service to date, even catching the eye of Prime Minister Mark Carney, who met the Canadian lead and director at the Prime Time 2026 gala in January.
In a recent conversation with co-star Sophie Nélisse documented by Wonderland, Williams disclosed his current project of working on a book while emphasizing his grounding through the practice of writing and journaling. “I’ve been heavily involved in writing. I have two separate journals. One is a manuscript — somewhat autobiographical — capturing this phase of my life, where I blend fiction with reality,” he shared.
He attributes his fondness for journaling in part to the works of American writer Joan Didion, known for acclaimed books like “The Year of Magical Thinking” and “Play It As It Lays.” “I maintain a Google document where I craft my inner thoughts, jotting down my emotions and musings in hotel rooms between engagements … I admire Joan Didion, who once mentioned journaling as a means to reconnect with oneself in old age,” Williams revealed.
Beyond Didion’s works, Williams also expressed interest in the “hot girl read” genre, featuring literary works by women authors. In a video interview with Vanity Fair last December, he disclosed his enjoyment of “Sex and Rage” by Eve Babitz. Prior to his fame with “Heated Rivalry,” Williams frequently shared his current reading choices online, ranging from Anne de Marcken’s surreal novel “It Lasts Forever and Then It’s Over” to DC Comics’ “Nightwing.”
During the Wonderland discussion, Williams highlighted his deep connection to reading and writing within the comfort of his home in Vancouver. “In Vancouver, I immerse myself in books, watch movies. I feel connected to my wellspring of inspiration. I absorb art before I create,” he expressed.
While the prospect of Williams releasing his debut novel remains uncertain, as he has not yet announced any book deals, literary agent Samantha Haywood anticipates a significant interest from publishers. “A partly autobiographical novel by the star of the worldwide phenomenon ‘Heated Rivalry’? Publishers will be vying for territorial rights, possibly on a global scale, for this novel,” remarked Haywood, the president of Transatlantic Agency in Toronto. “And if it takes a romantic turn, they will spare no expense.”
Despite attempts by CBC Books to seek comments from Williams and his team, no response has been received to date.
