Three workers at a daycare in Yellowknife have been placed on suspension following accusations of inappropriate behavior, as outlined in a communication to parents by the daycare administration. The letter, authored by Marlene Gravel, the executive director of Garderie Plein Soleil, revealed that the French daycare is actively looking into the incidents and seeking legal counsel. These alleged incidents occurred prior to the Christmas holiday.
The communication stated that the three employees in question have been suspended pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation. Despite this development, local law enforcement confirmed that they have not received any formal complaints regarding the allegations, indicating that there is no ongoing criminal inquiry.
Eva Bellevance, the vice-president of the daycare’s board of directors, refrained from divulging specific details about the incidents, citing privacy concerns. She reassured parents that the daycare is strictly adhering to internal policies and all relevant legal standards. Bellevance also clarified that the suspended employees are currently on paid leave.
In response to these events, the Department of Education, Culture, and Employment (ECE) in the Northwest Territories informed CBC News that the employees were suspended on December 18 in light of the alleged incidents. ECE stated that they are in the process of gathering information to determine if there are any breaches of legislative regulations that necessitate further investigation.
