“Poilievre Criticizes Liberal Government in Yarmouth Rally”

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre visited Yarmouth, N.S., for the second time in a year and a half. Addressing a crowded rally at a local hotel, Poilievre criticized Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberal government for issues concerning the cost of living, fisheries, and crime rates. He attributed high grocery prices to the previous ten years of Liberal governance and condemned Fisheries Department policies, particularly criticizing the handling of disputes with Indigenous fishers over their treaty right to fish for a moderate livelihood.

During his previous visit to Yarmouth in August 2024, Poilievre had spoken at an event at the Yarmouth airport alongside then Conservative MP Chris d’Entremont. This time, Poilievre did not have kind words for d’Entremont, who switched sides to join the Liberals in November, stating that he no longer felt represented within Poilievre’s party. Although d’Entremont was not directly named, Poilievre referenced a critical statement about rising food prices, attributing it to the Liberal MP for Acadie-Annapolis who now supports the same high food costs.

Ahead of the rally, d’Entremont anticipated criticism from Poilievre, expecting negative remarks aimed at hindering his efforts to serve southwest Nova Scotia. Poilievre’s visit coincided with an upcoming vote at the Conservative Party’s convention to determine his leadership continuation.

In related news, upcoming construction tenders for housing in Shannon Park, a significant increase in Halifax water bills, and delays in Uber bylaw debates by the Halifax council were among other recent stories in Nova Scotia.
