“Frostbite Concerns Rise: Kenora Seeks Winter Clothing Donations”

A social service organization in Kenora is seeking donations of warm winter clothing as temperatures drop in northwestern Ontario. Cold weather warnings were issued by Environment Canada on Monday morning but have mostly been lifted, except for the Dryden and Sioux Lookout area. Despite the warnings, the upcoming days are expected to be extremely cold in the region.

In Thunder Bay, daytime temperatures will range from -16°C to -22°C, with overnight lows reaching around -30°C on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Similar cold conditions are forecasted for other areas like Dryden, Sioux Lookout, Atikokan, Red Lake, and Kenora, with daytime highs below -20°C and overnight lows colder than -30°C.

Yvonne Bearbull, the director of the Kenora Fellowship Centre, noted an increase in people seeking warmer clothing due to frostbite concerns. The center, which provides a daily drop-in program and distributes donated winter clothing, will remain open throughout the cold spell. Bearbull expressed gratitude for the generous response to their recent Facebook appeal for clothing donations, emphasizing the quick turnover of received items.

Donations of socks, footwear, coats, sweaters, pants, toques, mitts, and neck warmers are welcomed at the centre on Water Street in Kenora. Bearbull highlighted the compassion shown by donors and the impact of their contributions on those in need, emphasizing the importance of providing warmth and comfort during the harsh weather conditions.
