A recent Telus outage in the southern area of Haida Gwaii, British Columbia, has disrupted both cell phone and landline communication services. The telecommunications company reported that the outage started on Wednesday afternoon due to damage to a cable by a third party. Since 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, residents in Skidegate, Daajing Giids, Tlell, and Sandspit have been experiencing a loss of cellphone, data, and landline connectivity.
Service technicians are currently at the site working on repairs, with efforts in progress to restore the services. Telus expects the repairs to be completed by early Thursday evening. Meanwhile, the Haida Gwaii Hospital and Health Centre in Daajing Giids has also been impacted by the outage, according to Northern Health. Residents are advised to enable Wi-Fi calling on their mobile devices and dial 250-645-8810 to reach the hospital during this period.
Additionally, the Daajing Giids RCMP have recommended that residents physically visit the detachment for any required police services. For those experiencing low power or data, a low-bandwidth version of the site is available through CBC Lite.
