“PM Carney to Meet with King Charles in UK”

Prime Minister Mark Carney is anticipated to have a meeting with King Charles during his upcoming visit to the United Kingdom. Carney is scheduled to arrive in London on Sunday following his participation in the NATO Cold Response exercises in Norway and attendance at a summit of Nordic countries. The meeting between the prime minister and the King is slated for Monday, almost a year after King Charles visited Canada to deliver the throne speech for the 45th Parliament.

In a statement to the press on Thursday, Carney mentioned that the King is keen on discussing advancements in the Arctic region and the impact of climate change on the North. He highlighted that the King recently had conversations with Treaty 6 chiefs, indicating a wide array of topics for their meeting.

During a recent face-to-face gathering with Indigenous leaders, King Charles showed concern upon hearing about separatist movements in Alberta. Grand Chief Joey Pete, part of the delegation of Treaty 6 chiefs who visited Buckingham Palace, expressed that the King displayed a strong interest in the viewpoints shared by the Indigenous leaders.

While in the UK, Carney is also scheduled to meet with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street. A senior government official disclosed that discussions will encompass the Middle East situation and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. London marks the final stop on Carney’s official itinerary in Europe, although he will continue to remain engaged with his team and officials on key priorities.

Carney emphasized during a statement on Thursday that despite his time off, he will be actively involved and maintain a strong connection with governmental affairs. He reiterated the strength of his cabinet and his approach of delegating authority to ministers as one of his leadership traits.
