Pierre Poilievre Embarks on Diplomatic Mission to Europe

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is gearing up for his first official overseas visit as opposition leader next week, aiming to engage with parliamentary counterparts and business figures in London and Germany.

This trip follows his recent articulation of Canada’s ties with the United States during a speech in Toronto. A press release detailing Poilievre’s agenda states that the primary objective is to fortify both business and diplomatic connections.

The schedule reveals that Poilievre will engage with British MPs and business representatives in London on Monday and Tuesday. Additionally, he is slated to attend a CANZUK reception on Monday evening, hosted by CANZUK International, an organization advocating for enhanced trade, migration, and foreign policy collaboration among Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.

Poilievre’s visit to London will culminate with the delivery of the Margaret Thatcher Lecture at the Centre for Policy Studies on Tuesday. Amidst his engagements, Poilievre’s office has chosen not to disclose specific details regarding his meeting participants.

Subsequently, Poilievre will head to Berlin on Wednesday to discuss the transatlantic relationship at the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, affiliated with the governing Christian Democratic Union. He will also tour the port of Hamburg and a liquefied natural gas facility at the Jade-Wesser port on the North Sea coast.

The Conservative leader is anticipated to return to Canada the following Sunday, with the Conservative party covering all expenses related to the trip. Poilievre’s recent address at the Economic Club of Canada in Toronto underscored his opposition to U.S. President Donald Trump’s rhetoric towards Canada and emphasized the importance of maintaining a stable relationship with the United States. Furthermore, the speech briefly touched upon policies and trade partnerships with countries such as India and China.
