A 43-year-old man from Liverpool, Nova Scotia, faces charges of impersonating a police officer and stealing a dump truck in separate incidents on the South Shore. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) reported that on the night of December 26, the man, dressed in civilian attire, approached the Cookville RCMP detachment near Bridgewater, claiming to be a sergeant recently transferred from another province. When asked for RCMP identification, he could not provide any. Subsequent verification revealed no such transfers or scheduled visits, leading to his arrest for impersonation and breach of a recognizance order. He appeared in court on December 29 and was released on conditions.
Days later, the man faced additional charges after Queens District RCMP responded to a stolen truck report on January 1. Following a break-in at a property in West Caledonia, where a dump truck was taken, officers spotted the vehicle on Highway 3 in Liverpool. The driver was apprehended, suspected of entering the garage the day prior and staying overnight before stealing the truck. Charges against him include break and enter with intent, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, and two counts of non-compliance with an order.
The accused appeared in court on January 2 and January 7, and is currently in custody pending a court appearance scheduled for February 4.
