A man from Winnipeg is facing charges for allegedly making threats against Prime Minister Mark Carney and stirring up hatred towards Jews and Muslims. The accused, Jason Paul Rindall, aged 55, was apprehended on February 13, as announced by the RCMP in a press release issued on Monday.
The RCMP’s division for national security enforcement in the northwest region initiated an investigation into posts made on a social media platform, formerly known as Twitter, on January 16, almost a month prior to Rindall’s arrest. Rindall has been charged with three counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm under the Criminal Code of Canada. He is currently in custody and is set to appear before a judge at the Manitoba provincial court in Winnipeg on March 13.
The RCMP stated in the release that no further comments would be provided at this time due to the ongoing investigation and legal proceedings. Carney’s office directed inquiries to the RCMP. The RCMP’s federal policing unit focuses on investigating crimes related to terrorism, espionage, cyberattacks, and other offenses.
