Hyundai Canada has announced a safety recall for select 2024–2026 Elantra Hybrid vehicles over a potential fire hazard. The recall impacts 6,082 cars in Canada, as confirmed by Hyundai. A Hyundai spokesperson, Nitish Bissonauth, stated that there have been no reported fires, incidents, injuries, or fatalities in Canada related to this issue.
In the United States, approximately 54,337 vehicles are being recalled due to the same safety concern, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The problem is attributed to a malfunction in the hybrid power control unit in certain vehicles, which may lead to overheating.
The NHTSA warns that this issue could result in a “no start” situation or reduced power mode in most instances, potentially escalating to overheating and posing a fire risk. Hyundai has assured that it will contact all affected drivers and provide a complimentary software update to rectify the overheating issue.
