Durham authorities reported the tragic death of an 82-year-old woman who was fatally hit by a vehicle while crossing a street in Whitby on Friday. The incident occurred at the intersection of Brock Street N. and Mary Street W. around 1:15 p.m., as confirmed by the Durham Regional Police Service in a social media update on Saturday.
The pedestrian sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a hospital in Toronto, where she succumbed to her injuries. The driver involved in the collision stayed on the scene and assisted with the police inquiry, according to Durham police.
Following the accident, the intersection of Brock Road N. and Mary Street W. was shut down for investigation purposes, with normal traffic resuming around 7 p.m. on Friday as informed by Durham police to CBC Toronto.
