“Canadian Embassy Maintains Presence in Lebanon Amid Rising Iran Tensions”

Global Affairs Canada has confirmed that Canadian personnel are still present in Lebanon despite heightened military tensions involving Iran. The Canadian Embassy in Beirut remains operational, providing essential consular services to Canadians. This decision contrasts with the U.S. Embassy’s recent move to evacuate non-essential staff and advise diplomats and their families to depart from the region.

Tensions between the U.S. and Iran have intensified, with U.S. President Donald Trump deploying a substantial military presence in the Middle East and issuing threats unless Tehran engages in negotiations to limit its nuclear activities. Iran has warned of retaliation in response to any U.S. attacks.

Global Affairs Canada emphasized the safety and security of its diplomatic staff and their families as a top priority. The latest advisory from Canada, updated on February 13, discourages non-essential travel to Lebanon due to ongoing regional tensions, security risks, potential terrorist threats, and the conflict with Israel.

The U.S. Embassy in Lebanon has cautioned American personnel remaining in the country about potential travel restrictions and strongly recommended their departure. In a meeting with his Peace Board, President Trump warned Iran of dire consequences if a nuclear agreement is not reached.

President Trump is expected to address the Iran situation in his upcoming state of the union address on Tuesday night.
