CBC Sports and the Canadian Elite Basketball League have revealed a significant five-year collaboration, featuring the broadcast of the inaugural best-of-three league championship in August. Major matchups are set to be televised on CBC-TV, with all games available for live streaming on CBC Gem and CBC Sports YouTube.
The CEBL, with a national presence of 10 teams, aims to engage fans across various platforms, as stated by league president and CEO Ty Mazereeuw. Mazereeuw emphasized the importance of reaching fans through trusted outlets like CBC Sports, expanding viewership through digital channels such as CBC Gem and YouTube.
Chris Wilson, CBC’s executive director of Sports and Olympics, expressed enthusiasm for sharing the excitement of basketball with a broader audience across CBC platforms, while also connecting with local fans in CEBL communities nationwide. Wilson highlighted the current success of Canadian basketball globally and the opportunity to showcase the talents of young Canadian players through the partnership with CEBL.
Having been the league’s broadcast partner since its inception in 2019, CBC Sports continues to play a vital role in promoting the CEBL. The league, featuring teams from six provinces and a roster predominantly composed of Canadian players, has seen a significant increase in its fan base, now boasting 4.1 million Canadians, a 57% growth from four years ago.
Furthermore, the CEBL has fostered a youthful basketball audience, with over half of its fans under the age of 34. Nearly 40 players from the league have secured contracts with the NBA, showcasing the talent pool within the CEBL.
The 2026 regular season is scheduled to kick off on May 9 in Edmonton, featuring a matchup between the Stingers and the Winnipeg Sea Bears. Fans can access the complete game schedule on the official CEBL website, while details about the league’s new playoff structure are also available online.
