Chris Brown Pleads Guilty in London Nightclub Assault

U.S. artist Chris Brown entered a guilty plea on Friday for assaulting a producer at a London nightclub three years ago, with more severe charges being dropped. Brown, 37, and his vocal coach Omololu Akinlolu, 40, confirmed their identities and guilty pleas in London’s Southwark Crown Court regarding the incident at Tape nightclub in February 2023. They had initially faced charges of attempting to cause serious bodily harm and assault causing bodily harm to Abraham Diaw, which they denied. However, they pleaded guilty to the charge of affray, acknowledging the use or threat of unlawful violence against someone feeling unsafe. The prosecution confirmed that the other charges would not proceed to trial, with Brown and Akinlolu being granted bail until their sentencing on Oct. 26, where they could face a maximum of three years in prison. The court emphasized that all sentencing options are on the table. The Crown Prosecution Service condemned the attack as vicious and unprovoked, involving the use of a glass bottle as a weapon. Prosecutors alleged that Brown assaulted Diaw with a tequila bottle, with both Brown and Akinlolu continuing the attack as Diaw tried to escape. Brown’s arrest in May 2025 jeopardized his world tour, but he was later released on bail after providing a substantial security fee. Fans supported Brown outside the court, chanting his nickname “Breezy” as he signed autographs and left in a car.
