Laura Nolte from Germany took the lead in the women’s monobob event at the Milan Cortina Games after the first two runs on Sunday. Elana Meyers Taylor and Kaillie Humphries Armbruster are close behind, vying for more Olympic medals.
Nolte completed her two runs in 1 minute, 59.12 seconds, giving her a 0.22-second advantage over Meyers Taylor and a 0.31-second lead over Humphries Armbruster before the final heats on Monday evening to determine the medalists.
The gap to the rest of the competitors is significant, with Melanie Hasler from Switzerland in fourth place, trailing Nolte by 0.78 seconds, and Kaysha Love from the U.S. in fifth place, 0.89 seconds behind.
Canadians Melissa Lotholz and Cynrthia Appiah are currently in 8th and 10th place, respectively. The leaderboard is highly competitive, featuring top athletes such as Nolte, the reigning World Cup monobob champion, Humphries Armbruster, the gold medalist in monobob at the previous Olympics, and Meyers Taylor, the silver medalist in that event.
Despite a challenging start, Australia’s Bree Walker managed to climb to seventh place by the end of Sunday, trailing Nolte by a full second and the bronze medal position by over half a second. Lisa Buckwitz of Germany is one spot ahead of Walker on the leaderboard.
The competition remains intense as the athletes gear up for the final heats to determine the medal winners.
