The Neqotkuk First Nation community is receiving emotional and spiritual support following the tragic death of Bronson Paul, 40, who was shot by a police officer during a domestic dispute response in northwestern New Brunswick. Terry Young from Bilijk First Nation expressed solidarity with the Wolastoqey Nation, emphasizing the series of recent tragedies affecting the communities.

Support strategies such as the Wampum critical incident stress management response and a sacred fire have been put in place to aid community members in their healing process. Roxanne Sappier, a resident of Neqotkuk, explained the peer-to-peer support system that spans across the six Wolastoqey communities, focusing on cultural strengths and ceremonies.

Authorities reported that the incident involving Paul led to his death at a hospital in Grand Falls. The New Brunswick RCMP is investigating the case, with no further details provided about the weapon Paul allegedly had. The Serious Incident Response Team has been called in to handle the investigation, ensuring transparency and procedural fairness.

Bronson Paul is survived by his partner, father, children, and step-children, as mentioned in his obituary. Visitation and funeral arrangements have been scheduled at the Paul Pyres Community Hall in Tobique First Nation.
